Iesha Gordon dominates James Walsh Classic

IESHA Gordon won the two major titles — the Open Female Single and the Open Female Doubles — in the 2014 Island Dairies EZ Sip James Walsh Classic Badminton Championship which concluded at the Haile Salassie High School on Friday.

The championship was played at two venues: the Noranda Sports Complex last Saturday and at the Haile Salassie High School.

The number one-seeded Gordon defeated the number two-seeded Taina Daley 21-13, 21-15 in the Open Female Single final at the Noranda Sports Complex to retain her title as the junior champion.

She dominated the game from start to finish, winning the first set 21-13 with some beautiful backhand and forehand shots before returning to close off the match 21-15, in the same fashion she did in the first set with a superb long and powerful smashshot that gave Daley no chance to deny her the win.

“The game was all right, there wasn’t any real challenge. It was an easy win for me,” Gordon told the Jamaica Observer.

Daley, on the other hand, said she was disappointed with the way she played.
