Establishment of the Brown’s Town Community College Badminton Programme
The Badminton Programme was launched in October 2010 with the help of National Assistant Junior Team Coach Lisco Jackson and a donation of equipment from the Jamaica Badminton Association.
We competed for the first time at the collegiate level in 2012 (the only community college that competed in the INTERCOL Competition in 2011-2012
We have hosted five (5) tournaments since then:
1. The Easter Fiesta Singles Tournament in April 2011
2. The Christmas Fiesta Doubles Tournament in December 2011
3. The Christmas Fiesta Doubles Tournament in December 2012
4. Island Dairies EZ SIP The James Walsh Classic 2014 – This tournament was officially sanctioned by the Jamaica Badminton Association.
Total sponsorship in 2014 – $96,000
5. The Island Dairies EZ Sip James Walsh Classic 2015 Badminton Tournament’ – The Doubles Edition – Officially sanctioned by the Jamaica Badminton Association.
Total sponsorship in 2014 – $106,000
Reestablishment of the Brown’s Town Community College Athletics Programme
Since January 2012, the Brown’s Town Community has resumed its annual
participation in track and field meets including the following:
1. The G.C. Foster Classics
2. The UWI Invitational
3. Jamaica Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships
Establishment of the Brown’s Town Community College Field Hockey Programme
UWI Under-19 Field Hockey Championships, February 15th, 2014
The college received two awards:
1. Leading Goal Scorer – Jason McPherson (BTCC)
2. Most Disciplined Team – BTCC
Intercol Field Hockey Rally Competition, February 27th, 2014
The Brown’s Town Community College Rally Competition was held on February 12th, 2015 on the grounds of the York Castle High School.
All the tertiary institutions involved in hockey took part in the event.
1. UWI males and females
2. UTECH males and females
3. G.C. Foster College males and females
The rally was played on York Castle’s basketball court.
The tournament was designed to encourage and support BTCC in the development of the sports of hockey and to expose the students of York Castle to the sport.
