NVQ-J Early Childhood programme

The NVQ-J Early Childhood programme is designed to train individuals who are passionate about working with young children in early learning environments. The programme equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to support the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of children from birth to age eight. It covers both Level 2 (entry-level childcare skills) and Level 3 (advanced teaching and caregiving responsibilities), making it ideal for those who want to begin or advance their careers in early childhood education.

NVQ-J Early Childhood Development — Level 2 & Level 3

The National Vocational Qualification of Jamaica (NVQ-J) in Early Childhood at Brown’s Town Community College (BTCC) prepares students for entry-level and advanced roles in the healthcare sector.

  • Level 2 Duration: Approximately 9 months
  • Level 3 Duration: Approximately 6 months
  • Mode of Delivery: Part-time (online)

Programme Structure

Competency-based training with practical tasks, observation, and portfolio assessments. Focus on child supervision, early learning facilitation, health & safety, and family engagement.

Entry Requirements

For Level 2:

  • Minimum of one (1) CSEC subject, or
  • Entrance test, or
  • Relevant work experience in a health-related field

For Level 3:

  • Successful completion of Level 2, or
  • Equivalent qualification or relevant industry experience
