The Bachelor of Science in Social Work degree programme has a duration of four (4) years. The programme is a dynamic one, where students will be exposed to industry practices and experiences as much as is possible during the delivery of the programme. Like programmes in nursing and education, the Bachelor of Science in Social Work degree will prepare students for immediate entry into human service positions. Students pursuing this programme can expect to complete courses in social work practice, social welfare, history, diversity and the struggle for human rights, promotion of social and economic justice, social research methods, and human behavior theory in addition to other areas under social work.
This degree will prepare graduates to utilize a planned change or problem solving approach that encompasses engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and follow-up. It will prepare learners to work with a clientele which may consist of individuals, families, groups, organizations, or communities. Upon completion of this programme, the graduate is expected to be able to function in primary as well as secondary social work settings.
5 CSEC/GCE Subjects (including Math and English). Students without Mathematics must sit Foundation Concepts in Mathematics I & II within the first year of study OR Associate degree in Social Work for students entering the programme in the third year
